Using the Winter Solstice to Make Peace with Ourselves and Others - Guided Meditation

We are all made up of light and dark.

Embracing the parts of us that we may suppress out of fear or shame gives us the power and the energy to connect with something larger than ourselves and gives us the inspiration to move in the world in a way that feels whole and purposeful.

We suffer when we spend time suppressing and hiding our darkness.

Winter naturally invites us to slow down and look within.

We’ve forgotten how to embrace this invitation in a world of bright lights, holiday shopping and constant production.

Thankfully, there is a wide network of people waking up to the ways in which the world has become unsustainable and painful. We reach out to one another and help lift each other towards a new way of experiencing ourselves and the world.

A more peaceful way.

What is the Winter Solstice?

The Winter Solstice marks the first day of Winter with the start of a new solar cycle. It signifies the Sun’s return towards longer and brighter days. This is the turning point where the seeds that have been planted deep in the dormant earth may start a slow build toward the light and bloom of Spring.

Before that happens, we are experiencing the longest and darkest days of the year. This is the energy of slowing down and turning within.

Embracing the darkness and silence as a time of rest and contemplation, integrating all of the parts of ourselves in the comfort and safety of darkness out of which our soul’s intent and inspirations can emerge.

Embracing all parts of ourselves

When we connect to the cycles of nature, we invite ourselves to connect with something much larger than just us, and to feel the ways in which we too are a part of this cycle. Coming home to this deep knowing, we are invited to embrace all the parts of us, not just the ones we were taught were “good.”

When we fear our own darkness, we cut ourselves off from an essential part of our personal power. When we are not connected and integrated with our own bodies we cannot possibly see the good in each other.

We use this time to reflect and welcome our darkness and to use that wisdom as a great catalyst for growth and transformation. Listen to yourself and let your feelings guide you: they are your truth.

The nature of the world is ever-changing

The darkness will not last. Allow yourself to rest in this place today, knowing that the bright, bursting fullness of Spring is coming.

You are always connected to your own inner light. Embrace this, and trust you have the strength to face whatever may come.

This is in our nature- let the energies of rest and contemplation build slowly towards personal growth and transformation. Nurture yourself with compassion, reflection and love. You are not alone.

May the New Year bring us all peace and great joy.
